Adverse Uses of AI

AI is incredibly powerful, and most users of AI are making people, companies, countries, society better off, but along with the good, there will inevitably be negative consequences. The sooner we begin to think about what those might be, the better equipped we will be to mitigate and manage the dangers.

AI technology has been used to create deep fakes and that means to synthesize video of people doing things that they never actually did. And if this type of technology is used to target an individual and make others think they said or did things they never actually did, then these individuals could be harmed and left to defend themselves against fake video evidence of something they never actually did.

Closely related to this, is the rise of fake comments that AI can generate.

Using AI technology is now possible to generate fake comments.

Either on the commercial side, fake comments of products, or in political discourse, fake comments about political matters in the public discourse, and to generate fake comments much more efficiently than if you only had humans writing them.

So, detecting such fake comments and weeding them out, is an important technology for maintaining trust in comments that we might read online as well.

Here are some key negative impacts of artificial intelligence to consider:

  1. AI Bias

Since AI algorithms are built by humans, they can have built-in bias by those who either intentionally or inadvertently introduce them into the algorithm.

  1. Loss of Jobs

While many jobs will be created by artificial intelligence and many people predict a net increase in jobs or at least anticipate the same amount will be created to replace the ones that are lost thanks to AI technology, there will be jobs people do today that machines will take over.

  1. Accelerated Hacking

Artificial intelligence increases the speed of what can be accomplished and, in many cases, it exceeds our ability as humans to follow along. With automation, delivery of viruses to software and taking advantage of AI systems, might be difficult for humans to uncover until there is a real quagmire to deal with.

  1. AI Terrorism

Similarly, there may be new AI-enabled form of terrorism to deal with: From the expansion of autonomous drones and the introduction of robotic swarms to remote attacks or the delivery of disease through nanorobots.

It is important to have an understanding about its side effects of AI. This will help you make the necessary preparations to deal with the misuse of AI in your organization. After implementing an AI system, it is recommended that you closely monitor its functioning in a setting with human control. By working together with security analysts, you can find out any Vulnerabilities in the system that hackers are likely to exploit. Moreover, you will be given an understanding of the level of control exercised by the AI related to your business operations.

Another way is to follow the guidelines related to AI safety during its development and implementation. By closely adhering to the ethics that bind the use of AI in enterprises, you can deploy a model that could is less risky. Removing any biases in the system and making it more transparent in its functioning can prevent any sort of misuse.
